Most patients notice some improvement within the first few treatments, however, chiropractic works with the body’s ability to heal itself, therefore the number of appointments isn’t a “one-size-fits-all”.
Chiropractic care can help reduce pain, improve mobility, retrain muscle imbalance, and improve overall function of the body. Our treatment plans are tailored to each patient’s condition and personal goals to maximize benefits.
Like any treatment option, there are potential risks, however, serious complications are very rare. The most common side effect of chiropractic care is temporary soreness similar to muscle soreness after exercising. Your doctor will conduct a full examination to assess your condition and create a care plan specifically for your body to reduce any risks associated with treatment.
You may feel some pressure, however, adjustments should never cause severe pain. Our doctors strive to make adjustments as comfortable as possible by using different adjustment techniques specific to each patient.
Here at Dalton Chiropractic, we take the time to listen to our patients to fully understand what is causing your pain rather than simply managing the symptoms. Our goal is to not only help you feel better but stay better and improve your overall health.
At your first appointment, the doctor will take time to discuss the history of your condition with you and complete a full examination to understand the cause of your pain. After the examination, your doctor will explain what they found, discuss how chiropractic can help, and answer any questions you may have before getting your first adjustment! This first visit takes 30-50 minutes. After the first appointment, your appointments will only take 10-15 minutes to get adjusted and discuss your ongoing progress with your doctor.
Chiropractors complete extensive education and clinical training before becoming licensed. After completing an undergraduate or bachelor’s degree, they must complete a 4-year doctoral program, pass 4 national board examinations, pass a physiotherapy board examination, and meet the state’s licensing requirements. To master skills in clinical diagnosis, treatment techniques, radiology, and patient care, chiropractic students spend a minimum of 4,200 classroom hours and 1,000 hours of clinical experience.

Chiropractic care does not create a physical dependence on adjustments. Throughout the progression of your care plan, treatments will actually become less frequent as your body learns to function optimally on its own.
With some adjustments, you may hear a popping sound which is simply gas releasing from the joint.
An adjustment is a specific and controlled force applied to a precise joint that is not moving correctly. When you “crack” your own neck or back, you may get temporary relief, but it is not targeted at the restricted joint. Certain areas of the spine, specifically the neck, carry more risk if manipulated incorrectly. The best way to get relief at home is through stretches or exercises that your doctor recommends specifically for you.
